Hello all, sorry for not being around much but work is like mega busy at the moment. Anyway my dilemma is as follows:
Gone from a rock solid connection of 8128 to a paltry 7520 resulting in a 6500 profile, doesn't sound bad but when your used to the best i expect nothing less!! ;D...Anyway this seemed to happen the other day when i dropped connection, it re-synced at around 8000 but since then it must of re-connected again at some point at 7250, so obviously something somewhere isn't right. I haven't changed anything my side and our exchange isn't scheduled for WBC till late next year so I'm kinda lost. I haven't phoned IDNet yet as i want to extinguish all options before i contact them!
Can you use the test socket behind the faceplate if you have an NTE5 master, Steve? BT do seem to have been working on cables in many parts of the country - my speed has actually improved - and some issues seem to stem from the work, others from a general deterioration in cable and joint quality, exacerbated by increased crosstalk as ADSL takeup increases. If you use the test socket, you will eliminate your own wiring, if the problem then persists, you could take it up with IDNet, though I suspect BT might refuse to consider it a fault as you are still well above your fault threshold rate. :(
Edit: typo
I'll go and plug into my test socket now and change the filter while I'm at that see if that improves anything and report back, with results.
Cheers Rik
Hmmm 6944 now, that ain't right!! :rant2:
Sounds a bit like there's a lot of noise around, Steve. Has anything switched on, eg heating, machinery of some form? Do you have a battery-powered AM radio you could de-tune, then listen for electrical noise with?
I'm wondering if interleaving was enabled. A 6500k profile often suggests sync of 7616k, which means interleaving is switching on. Perhaps things have deteriorated more since then.
Could you post your stats?
No nothing like that Rik, It's ok i think i have found the problem, I was using my old Netgear as something went wrong with my 2WIRE but i have managed to get that back up working and i just seen that my interleaving is switched on, that's prob why I'm not at 8128 and actually at 7808. Can support switch it off if i ask them?
Ah, so I was right.
Support will be able to get it switched off, but you have to remember that it's been switched on for a reason. It could have been a temporary glitch that caused high errors, but there's no guarantee that it won't get enabled again.
Yeah that's true, i can only ask and then wait to see if everything remains stable.
Good luck. :)
I have never got higher than 7616 (profile 6500)with the 2wire with interleave on.It is possible to get higher despite what BT say with interleave enabled, the Speedtouch 585v6 gave me 8096 (profile 7000) and the DG834N 8128 (profile 7150) I believe both of these utilise a broadcom chipset. :)
That's correct, Steve. It's got something to do with the chipset at the exchange and chipset of the router you're using.
Yeah I'm currently sitting at 7808 using the 2wire with interleaving on, awaiting it switched off.
Hmm more gremlins on my ADSL line i think, noise margin has jumped to 11db from 6db and syncing at 6976kpbs :bawl:
It sounds like the target SNRM has been pushed up to 12dB, or even 15dB (it could have just deteriorated as it's night). This would have been caused by some instability. :(
Yeah, really don't know whats going on as for years my line has been rock solid, will give it a few day and if it hasn't improved will give support a ring.
I dont think having interleaving will measureably alter the actual throughput ( maybe less than 500kbp lower than non interleaved from what I read) it may increase latencies though. Again only serious gaming would pick this up.
I have interleaving on and sync at 6000 to 7000 . Latencies are mostly very low. Ping test are mostly in the sub 10ms region at worst. My actual real world throughputs are very low caused by congestion somewhere.
BT only guarantee throughputs to be at least 700kbps on a MAX service even that is not for sure if they have service outages!!
Still its worth getting it all sorted out but it might all return if the cause of the interleaving activation reoccurs. Line noise, CB transmitters nearby, mobile phone( a transmitter dont forget) near the PC / modem, electrical noise ( sparking in switches etc) or motor bike ignition ( poorly suppresssed) lawnmowers etc.
I read that one faulty old style TV was jamming a whole villages broadband.
Certainly, I've heard of a bad Sky box taking out a street. Now if we only had fibre...
it's a pipedream Rik.......
It's more the impossible dream, Vit. ;)
