Title: Nod32 AV or smartsecurity?
Post by: mrapoc on Sep 25, 2008, 13:56:52
Hey guys

Nod32 has been brilliant over the years and Iv just contacted them about a student discount license. If you had to choose AV only (cheaper, less resources?) or Smart security (more complete?)

Basically are there many advantages to smart security over AV? Will post back with prices once known

FYI: Eset have contacted me regarding support within 2 hours of contacting them

I'm a KISS merchant, Sam, so AV only from me.  :)

I'd go just AV as well :)

The student price on the AV when I got it was 50% discount on full price. :)

I like suites, because there's less chance of conflicts, than if you use separate brands for AV, Firewall, and Anti-Spyware, but each to their own, and it's good that we're all different.  :)

Tried the Smart Security, the firewall is lacking and has issues with networking and even basic upnp is blocked when you select it to be allowed in the rules, many have had issues with it not working as it should. I'd go for the av

I run a HIPS based one because I have full control of what goes out and what communicates, if something get on to my system the HIPS will isolate the programs communication abilities and access to the system itself.

Same here. I don't feel it's necessary (for me, that is, not everyone). :)

I haven't voted, because I haven't any experience of ESET products, but going by other's comments, if I had to choose, I would probably go for the stand alone AV in this instance.
