Title: Virtual Tours
Post by: Moonshine on Sep 23, 2008, 13:28:07
Hello!

My apolologies, I only seem to venture here when I have a problem!

I am trying to view virtual tours on various websites, and I know it is a problem with my computer, rather than their websites, because I've tried a couple of different sites, and I can't view any of the virtual tours!

I have checked that I have the latest version of Java installed, and having gone onto their website, it checked it, and congratulated me for this!  I have fiddled around with "Internet Options", then "Security", then "Custom Level", on the advice I found on the web, and checked various different boxes, but I still cannot get virtual tours to work.  There's just a red cross in the top left hand corner when I try to view one.  Clearly, there's something I should have either checked with a tick or enabled, but haven't, or otherwise, there's something that's already checked with a tick that shouldn't be!!

Please, could someone help me to figure out what I need to do to enable me to watch a virtual tour?!!!

Thanks in advance for any advice offered (layman's terms only, please, with step by step instructions!!) - I struggle to understand techie talk, sorry! :-[

Is this in Internet Explorer?  Have you tried with another browser, such as Firefox?

Hi Simon

How strange!  I usually use IE, but from your last post, I just checked Firefox, and it worked on that!!  So, how do I get it working in IE?!

Cheers.

Personally, I would stick with Firefox, but if you must use IE ;)  have a look and see if there's a yellow bar at the top, saying that some sort of content is blocked.  That might give you a clue as to how to fix it.

Thanks Simon.

There's no yellow bar apparent, unfortunately.  I do have Firefox installed, but could never get on with it very well.  I'm aware it's many people's preference though!

Ah well, guess it's back to the drawing board....!!  Thanks for your help, anyway.

Well, the good news is that by clicking various items sporodically, I managed to cure my frustration at not being able to view virtual tours!  I did this by (quite by accident, I hasten to add), clicking on "Tools" and then "Manage Add-ons".  I was intending to click again into "Internet Options", but with boisterous child impatiently waiting to use computer and giving me earache, I mistakingly clicked the wrong (or right!) thing.  Anyhow, whilst there, I briefly noticed that there were a couple of Java Sun things (sorry about terminology) disabled.  I thought "what the heck", and enabled them.  Hey presto, I am now able to enjoy the wonderment of virtual tours!!!!!  I'm not so sure it's a good thing me being let loose on a computer - I tend to click and unclick things I probably shouldn't as naturally as breathing ;D

Anyway, thanks to all those who responded.  I appreciate it.  I'm happy again! :)

Cheers

Glad you got it sorted, Moonshine. Nonetheless, I think you should still use Firefox instead. ;)

Oh, and also you should come here more often. ;D
