thinking of getting one of these (http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-0126.aspx) the spec looks good for the price, the only downside I can see is the PSU is only 300w, I can replace that with the 500w I have spare. I don't play games on my PC so the lack of a major graphics card is no problem.
Not bad for £299, any thoughts?
I'd buy that, Philip, fast! :)

Dont worry about the case Philip get the largest psu and just aim it at the other half to cool her down........(double club card points) hadnt thought of that one) :hehe:

Definitely, Steve. That machine would need a UPS too, of course. >:D
All the best, Philip. :fingers:
Is that all, Seb? Can you not find something else for Philip to spend money on?? Where is your sense of tradition. ;D
Having just looked again at the spec I see its only got 2Gb of memory.I think from my experience 2Gb is a bare minimum for Vista, a relatively cheap upgrade to 4Gb (only 3Gb usable) will provide you with a much more responsive OS and less hard drive activity.
Or, for an equally cheap option, put XP on it! :)

Thanks Rik,I think what has impressed me about the new intels is their thermal efficiency, you don't need a host of noisy fans to blow a gale through the case to drag heat away from a hot processor plus in addition the motherboard are largely now fanless. I suppose Philip will have to be careful with his choice of graphics card and bespoke chip cooler and fan (more expense ;D) if "cool and quiet" is to be continued.
You're trying to spend his money again, Steve. ;)

So, philip, what are your views on the bargain priced pc?
for the price, and the PC's specs. I cannot fault it. :thumb: It worked straight out of the box, took about 10 minutes to get it all up and running.
The case is pleasant to look at, well built and comes with a silver facia and white sides. Plenty of room to work inside with good scope for upgrading.
Vista Home Premium is brilliant, don't believe all the talk of software/hardware not being compatible, my scanner and printer, both over 3 years old were installed with drivers obtained from relevant manufacturers websites. My favourite software also installed with no problems.
It is also very very quiet, the CPU temps are around 36 centigrade, the motherboard and harddrive run slightly lower, the CPU fan at about 1700 revs.
My only grumble is the rubbish keyboard and mouse that comes with it.
Glad to hear it. Decent keyboard/mouse combos can be had so cheap these days anyway. :thumb:

That's how I found it too. Excellent value for money! I never even took the bundled mouse and keyboard out of their wrappers, as I've already got some nice MS ones I use!
it's strange that you get attached to certain makes / brands of keyboards and mice.
eg. I use an Intellimouse Explorer v3 mouse, I just cannot use anything else, tried a few Logitechs, Razers and I just can't get comfortable with them.
the Memory arrived today, 10 minutes after getting home, the Memory was installed, now showing as 3316MB available. Brought back memories of my first memory upgrade 10/11 years ago when I upgraded from 8MB to a whopping 16MB.
How times have moved on ;D
Indeed, Philip. I can't believe how cheap RAM is; I saw this (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/245247/4gb-ocz-pc2-6400-reaperx-hpc-enhanc/) the other day and couldn't believe my eyes!
I wonder where we are in the memory-price cycle atm?
It's one of those products that seems to fluctuate for no apparent reason.
With the recession, there should soon be a surplus, so I'd expect prices to fall initially, followed by a cut in production and a price hike. Add in some $/£ variation for extra interest. :)
But then when does anything ever follow logic?
In my experience, very rarely. :shake:
