might of already had this, cant remember :whistle: I have an external hard drive mainly for back up. when moving it to another system, my sons upstairs, to back up does the software used need to be on each system or the external drive to be able to use it.

The external hard drive as it has no cpu,ram etc is just a store for files, therefore backup software needs to be installed on each system. :)

If you're just copying files on and off it manually, you don't need to install the software on any of the computers. Windows will install the drivers and then it'll be treated like any other hard drive.
