Title: Plodding after BT & Phorm
Post by: Rik on Sep 06, 2008, 12:36:21
El Reg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/05/bt_phorm_police_meeting/) is reporting that the City of London police are looking into the legality of the BT/Phorm trials. Let's hope they do better than they did with horse racing.  :eyebrow:

We can only hope  they go under as an example to others.

Well Phorms shares fell badly, but picked up a bit by the end of the week when BT said they would I think still do tests using Phorm, saying that £7 a share compared with £35 once is a massive drop so lets hope they do go under

Indeed. It's about time that things like this are dealt with properly.

I'm wondering why the City of London Police... As far as I know none of the alleged offences took place within their jurisdiction. Call me cynical but I'm half expecting them to drag this out then conclude they can't do anything and then it will get swept under the carpet.

That certainly wouldn't surprise me. :(

It might be related to the registered office of BT, of course.

It's turned out even worse than I thought: The Police have concluded that it's OK to break the law if you're a big company and you didn't intend to do anything bad... :rant2:

By that token I expect to be let off if I'm caught speeding as I didn't intend to hurt anyone. Think of all the fun we could have if this applied to us as well.

Cheers,
Paul.

I saw that, Paul. Somehow, the police think it's a civil matter!

A selective legal system will eventually backfire.
