Title: Foxit Reader 2.3
Post by: alan on Sep 02, 2008, 13:36:47
Anybody know of a way to open a document just by double clicking it instead of it keep asking me where to save the document.
Its a bit annoying having to save then open it up from there.. I'm sure in Adobe I used to D/C and it would open up without saving.
I'm running Firefox on XP.
.
Thanks

Right click on the file you want to open, choose open or open with, select the program that you want to open the file and then tick the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

The file should then be associated with that program.

Or have I misread your post?

Also, in FF, Tools > Options > Content > Manage to ensure Fox is set to use the right program.

Thanks for replies... What i am trying to do is open a PDF without having to save it.. Just open with a click read it and not save it at all.

It should work, Alan, it certainly does for me with Acrobat, so it should just be a case of making sure the file association is set in Windows and, if necessary, in Fox.

In my firefox when I click on a link to a .pdf file I get a box on the screen asking me what I want to do.

i.e Open the file with FoxitReader or to save it to disk.

I dont seem to get that choice.. It just asks where do I want to save the file to... I then save it and have to open it from wherever I've saved it..  If that makes sense..

Same here.

I've seen that behaviour with some files, Alan, but not PDFs. If the file associations are set correctly, it should just work.

Just checked on my Firefox 3.

Tools > Options > Applications > Scroll to .pdf > Currently set to "Always ask"

Most people have, I suspect, Steve. I just remain loyal to Adobe because they treated me well when I worked for them. :)

I don't remember changing any settings, and PDFs open automatically in Foxit from within FF, but what's been mentioned here may well come in useful in future; computers can be strange things. :P
