IDNet Help / Re: Banned from Netters??

The problem is, without knowning the IP ranges of the Safari proxies, we can't identify if a ban on those IPs is in place.

Quote from: Simon on May 06, 2026, 20:44:40Didn't we have a conversation in PM relating to this?  Could it be your Private Relay hitting on a banned IP again?  I've checked our logs and can only see one IP which isn't your usual one, but that particular one didn't have a ban on it.
I think that was when I was playing with anonymous proxies.  This time I've done nothing at all and don't use one.  Safari does have its own proxies and since I use that on the iPad it's probably something to do with that.  I use FireFox on the Mini and that appears to have escaped the ban. So far.....

I'll have a play with the Safari setup and see what happens.

IDNet Help / Banned from Netters??
Last post by Tacitus - May 06, 2026, 19:29:37
For some reason when I try to login to Netters on my iPad I get the msg that I'm banned and the ban is permanent.

When I login using the desktop machine here I am  ;D

Anyone any ideas on what's happening?  I'm using FireFox on the desktop and Safari on the iPad.  My only thought is that I use Firefox uBlock Origin on the desktop and the "Lite" version on the iPad and for some reason the iPad version is blocking something.

IDNet Help / Re: ATA De-registers
Last post by Tacitus - May 06, 2026, 19:18:29
TBH despite remembering the delights of manually editing punch cards for an IBM mainframe with a hand punch and an ASCII code table, I'm getting to the age where I just want things to work.....

The ATA is behaving itself at present and shows as being online.  I suspect it may be an intermittent fault in the network wiring between the router and the switch the ATA is connected to. It momentarily drops the link which causes the ATA to deregister.  As I've said I would expect it to at least try to reconnect but this doesn't appear to be happening. To be fair though there's no way I can tell, it simply drops the connection which stays dropped until a manual reset.

If I can't sort it out I do have the option of going elsewhere and using the ATA in the FritzBox.  The link to the A&A support page is very useful thank you.

A&A, but that's because I'm technically minded and do like to tinker. There are a lot of things on their end you can tinker with. I also have it going through Asterisk running on the router. Once I got things working it's been boringly reliable.

(Asterisk's pjsip doesn't recognise incoming calls if DNS lookups fail when it's starting up. And they will if the router has only just been booted up and the PPPoE link isn't yet active.)

My setup is also multi-site. The phones here at Dad's can call the phones and services at my home via an IAX link on a VPN. For instance, dialling 123 gets you the speaking clock with Pat Simmons's voice (used from 1963-1985). Dialling 160 gets you "Dial a Disc" (actually my continually running jukebox).

I've yet to switch my phone line to VoIP as it's still under contract with Virgin Cable. When I move to an AltNet provider in late summer I will do that (assuming they'll still pay the termination fees).

There's a lot of info on how to set up most phones/ATAs: https://support.aa.net.uk/Category:VoIP_Phones

Must admit I was tempted to go elsewhere, but since the phone was already with iDNet it seemed simpler to go with UBOSS for the move to SOGEA.  It is only a one month contract though so if this problem doesn't get sorted soon, I'll go elsewhere, probably to Voipfone who appear to be well regarded.

Out of interest, who did you go with for VOIP?

My partner's iPhone auto updated yesterday which caused a minor panic when it told her after the reboot she had been age verified via her credit card details.

I did think it a little odd as I don't recall it happening when my phone updated. Anyway it appears there are fringe benefits to be had...
