Title: Epson Printer and WEP setup
Post by: rabbit321 on Apr 24, 2012, 20:32:31
I have 2Wire BT2700HGV router - firmware version 6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm.

I'm trying to install an Epson WiFi printer but it gives me an error message

"The index for your computer's security key in wep security mode is set to something other than the first number" ... and then something to the effect that I need to "set it to the first number".

Epson say it's router problem, but can't tell me how to fix it.

Anyone any idea??

Is the printer set to the same type of security key as the 2700, ie, WEP, WPA, etc?

No its not!. IEEE 802.11 defines 4 WEP keys (with index 1 to 4) for WEP encryption, if the printer can't handle a key index other than 1 then it doesn't have a complete implementataion of WEP encryption.
However, is there a reason for you still using WEP ? if not then set the 2700 to WPA and I'm sure the printer will handle it.

I agree, WEP gives you the ability to share your printer with the rest of the street. :eek4:

HP printers can be shared with the rest of the world. I'm just waiting for the spam to start.
