There's such a thing as a "bathtub curve" for the faultiness of tech kit.

(Also glad I didn't put the VoIP here on BOSS.)

I did email them and got a reply along the lines of it could be a number of things.....

Well yes it could including a dud device, but since it's new that's probably unlikely.  I was really looking for the most common causes so that I have some idea of where to look for the source of the problem.

Since iDNet were pretty non-commital I thought I would ask here in case anyone else had experienced problems.

Just checked and it's gone offline again...

It's probably worth asking IDNet though. I find it is, anyway, if I have an issue that isn't easily solved.

Thanks for this.  Unfortunately the thing is locked down and I can't access it via a browser in the usual manner: 192.168.xx.xx etc, possibly because it's configured to use a non-standard port.

That means I can't obtain the firmware version unless I ring iDNet and I'm not sure they could tell me since UBOSS appears to be a black box.  I assume it's the latest version since it's only been installed recently.

Surely if the power or the network goes down and it drops the registration, it should automatically re-connect and register when the network comes back up.  A network scan shows that I can ping the ATA, but that only means it's alive but  not necesssarily registered with the server.

This is from a couple of years ago but there was a firmware fix to address that kind of issue. Have a read of this...

IDNet Help / ATA De-registers
Last post by Tacitus - May 02, 2026, 09:16:58
My ATA - Grandstream 801v2 - has recently started to de-register itself.  A paperclip reset makes it re-register, but I really need to find a cause.

The obvious could be a faulty ATA, but putting that aside shouldn't the ATA re-register automatically in the event of a power cut or network interuption.

Anyone any ideas as to a likely cause for de-registration?

Probably only if your router isn't too old. Mine was ancient in tech terms so the new one I got that was included in the IDNet deal came preconfigured. Though the shenanigans over the switch to SoGEA was fun. The BT engineer didn't get it quite right so my old router was working but the new wasn't for a while. All good now, though. (With A+A for the phone.)

Quote from: Tacitus on Apr 23, 2026, 08:51:24Are you using UBOSS?  If so you must surely have had the config information to setup the TP-Link router for VOIP.

TBH I'm surprised they're unable to supply the UBOSS config details but that's what I was told.  Maybe it only applies to the ATA.

Yes, I'm on UBOSS, but IDNet just did the switch from their end.  In which case, I suppose the router must have been preconfigured when they sent it to me, unless they can remote access it somehow.  I assume if I'd wanted to go with another VoIP provider, I'd have had to configure the router myself.  :dunno:

Quote from: Simon on Apr 22, 2026, 19:45:53I don't know about that.  I had my TP Link router with my FTTP about a year before I changed over to UBOSS, so I doubt the router would have been preconfigured for VoIP before I'd ordered the service.

Quote from: Tacitus on Apr 22, 2026, 17:34:11Presumably UBOSS also supply the preconfigured TP-Link routers although I find that surprising since it would also include the iDNet part of the setup.  Dunno  🤷
