maybe moving ISP soon and wondered if anyone would want to refer me to your gang ;D drop me a PM if so.
I noticed you sometimes have free month trial offers (just missed the last one :( ) when will the next one be do you know?
thanks
They're not that frequent, Baz. As you know, forum staff don't take part in the referral scheme as it would be too easy for us to abuse it, but if no-one comes forward, let me know and I'll nominate a volunteer. ;D
thanks Rik :)
Did someone call ? ;D
Had a PM from g7pkf about this
thanks
Havnt a clue what you are on about Baz ;D :thumb:
I do, David. ;)
I know you know Rik,if you know, what I dont know, and what Baz wants us all to know, what is there to know, and the answer has to be yes,not no ;D
Oh no, the answer was definitely yes, but not anymore. ;D

:conf: NNNOOOOoooooooooooo I dont know what I thought I know now.
it reminds me of this somehow....
This is a story about four people named
Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done
and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that,
because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it,
but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody,
when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
So, did anybody get fired for doing somebody's job that everybody could have done, but nobody did?
So you finally succumbed to the charm of IDNet then, Baz? ;D
That is, if we haven't scared him off! ;D

That's terrible, Rik. ::)
Yup, but totally irresistible. ;D
I wonder in these forums what the record is for the least number of posts before it has totally skewed off topic ;D ;D ;D

My Ford Popular never had any bleeding brakes. ;)
Perhaps you should have taken the leeches off, In? ;D

;D My ford popular had rod brakes, I'm that old. :(
Mine had an anchor you chucked out the window. ;D
Mine had cables - that stretched! ::)
Mo
;D
What is a topic ? :eyebrow:
A chocolate bar ;D
My first car was a Ford Prefect complete with runner board to give gangsters a lift, a opening windscreen (which was great in the fog) and air driven windscreen wipers. Don't remember much about the brakes but it was before Topic chocolate bars came out. but it had a KitKat in the boot does that count :conf:

did you walk with a limp then?
Strange the things you have forgotten. Manifold depression wipers was one of them. There was a vacuum tank I think. Dreaded a long drive uphill in heavy rain as the wipers slowed to a stall. It was a case of ease off the gas to see and then back on to keep going. Oh what fun motoring was.
Indeed Dave, the faster you went, the slower the wipers went, very useful when it was hissing it down, ;)
I'd completely forgotten them, what a pain they were. Oh, and no demisters...
Indeed Rik, I recall buying an add on one that was chrome plated and stuck to the window, and was operated via the battery.
No heater. :eek4:
Same here, In. Cars were really primitive back then, thinking about it. Do you remember the foot dip switch, near the clutch pedal?
Indeed Rik, a stubby round thing.
I also remember a Ford Thameson Van that had the clutch and brake pedals interchanged, hilarious to drive. :eek4: ;D
A Bader special. ;D
...and that Rik.
or a " badder " special .. ;D
I can be specially badder. :)
WELL IM HERE ;D ;D YOU'LL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ME ALL THE MORE NOW ;)
Congratulations on your emancipation, Baz, have a celebratory karma. :thumb:

quick update if you interested.
got switched earlier than expected on Friday :thumb: :thumb: speeds stuck at about 1800kbps but this may have been due to last ISP putting me back on a fixed 2mb to try and fix the prob. Saturday speed shot up to Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6735 kbps then to Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6737 kbps later on..........fastest Ive ever had :) :) :) :) then starting to drift back down to Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4496 kbps today. is this normal.
looking better already though.
Can you do a BT test, Baz, and find out what your profile is?
Im on it Rik. the unfortunate drawbacks of having speed probs is I visit BT site a lot ;)
Mon 18th Aug at 4.15pm
Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4496 kbps
Given the speeds you have seen, that looks like exchange congestion. Can you get at the error count at all?
where will that be Rik
Enter this in the browser address bar:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
which should result in a screen which just says 'Debug enable'.
(That's assuming that you haven't changed the router's IP address from the default).
Then exit from the web interface and open a command-line window. Type:
telnet 192.168.0.1
You should get a BusyBox welcome message to confirm that your telnet connection is established.
Now type:
cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats
get 'no such file or directory'
Which model do you have, Baz?
dg834pn
This reply from Baz has been blocked by windows ? any ideas
I don't think it works with that chipset, sorry. :( Can't find anything on Kitz either.

No. Which browser, AV, David?
thanks anyway Rik
I'm left feeling it's an exchange issue, Baz, you've seen what your line (and IDNet) can deliver and your profile is as good as it gets.
Have you checked the status?
http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/
:welcome: Baz :congrats:
Make sure the MTU in your router is set to 1500.
Anything less could be throttling your connection.
Mo
Good thinking, Mo. :thumb:
thanks Mo....I made it at last ;D setting is ok in router
Rik exchange details shows green :)
maybe busy as you say

Looks good, Baz. You should share some of that speed with us who have longer lines!!! :thumb:
Certainly nothing wrong with that speed, Baz, that's about as good as it gets.
seems to be up and down at the moment.......steady there........... ;) will keep a check on it dont want to get too obsessed with it

Since you had a fixed 2mb line before you will have a ten day training period so don't worry about changes as the line trains itself Baz.
Certainly not for the first 10 days. After that, we can start performing the Spanish Inquisition on some settings for you. ;)
yep will do guys thanks. Thats what support initially said too. The 2MB line was supposed to be just to try to fix the original problem on the MAX line
Is your boy pleased with the move Baz?
Mo
:)
so far yes Mo but havent really had a chance to use it as they've been camping in Wales. ran out of dry clothes and came back early today ;D.
late as usual Baz  but welcome to IDNet :thumb:
Thanks Philip. sounds the same as me, Im usually last to see all these announcements ;D ;D
I know it's late, but welcome to IDNet, Baz. :thumb:
thank you Sebby :)
