hooray, i`m finally free from the robbing liars at Virgin.
no doubt i`ll have debt collectors bugging me for the remainder of the bill (contract)
;D
You've completed migration, or got a MAC. Whichever, a karma is in order. :)
Hopefully, the won't give you too much grief.
thanks Rik, they didn`t even send me a Mac code. i had to complain to Ofcom.
So did you have to cease and re-provide? :(
btw Rik, i know my ping of 61 avg to BBC.co.uk is better than Virgins 250 ms. is this still a little higher than average?
i migrated to Idnet, phoned Virgin today after waiting 15 minutes. he said the account will end on the 17th of December
It's higher than mine, I tend to average 24ms, with interleaving on.

Not too bad then.
One thing I've noticed that all ISPs seem to do is to charge you from say 30th of one month to the 30th of the next so when they have to work out a part of a month, you actually pay for that 30th of the month twice. I refused to pay for that extra day to Eclipse and got the bill reduced by a few pence. A few pence extra from everyone soon adds up to a nice extra profit for the company.
as far as i know interleaving is still on
In my case that adds 4ms, but the average is 20ms, so you still seem a bit high. How stable is your lines (can you post the stats if possible)?
if you can tell me where to get them from, my medication plays tricks on me
is this it? the other way Ann is to leave people holding on a premium rate number

That's it. You have a low level of errors, so I would talk to IDNet about getting interleaving turned off. With those stats, you should be able to go flat out, 8182 sync, 7150 profile.
I'm jealous. ;D
how long does it take to get off? and what about stability. i know interleaving is for error correction
Here's one from North wales, with interleaving on.
212.58.251.203
ping successful: icmp_seq=26 time=52 ms
ping successful: icmp_seq=27 time=52 ms
ping successful: icmp_seq=28 time=58 ms

It's only a few hours, usually, to get it changed. Interleaving is turned on to improve line stability, but in your case I don't think your line should be unstable. It's the error-correction overhead which slows the connection down, but the depth can vary, I'm on the 'lightest' level.
yours is similar to mine xild, they don`t work at weekends do they?
No, you can log an emergency, but this wouldn't be classed as such. You can always drop them an email, support@idnet.net.

, they don`t work at weekends do they?
No, but they more than make up for it when they are there. ;)
thanks peeps, i mean i`m not having any probs as such. i play online at a Dutch server and the ping seems a little high considering Idnet have a carrier there i think
As I say, if you can't call them during the week, drop them an email. On the face of it, there's no reason for you to have interleaving on. Which part of the country are you in?
i`m in east Scotland
That will slow things a little, but not a huge amount. BT have been doing some work up in Edinburgh which did affect ping times, but that should be over soon (if not already).
can`t really grumble, a lot better than Virgin Slowband
i`ll see how it goes ;)
OK. I reckon you can gain 20ms at least though, plus a few kbps... :)
i`ll maybe get in touch next week then
HI anz,i have just joined this site, and like yourself am trying to get rid of virgin.net,basically have you noticed your performance increase?
looking at some of the replies about ping rates, atm i ping bbc.co.uk and get times of averaging around 100ish ms,and that has improved as they were in the 240's lol,I just really need to know that IDnet are as good as all the feedback i have read about them, and that what with xmas nearly here i can get the xbox live working for the kids,as its only connectable between 3am and 8am.
thanks for any responses.
Hi cowie!
I migrated last month from virgin.
IDnet is an incredible service, and dare i say "Flawless".
Hi Cowie and welcome to the forum - have a karma. :) :welc:
With interleaving on, I usually ping the BBC in 21-24ms. I'm not a gamer, so I'll leave others to offer personal experiences, but from what I have seen here and on ThinkBroadband, most people are happy with the service. IDNet have worked to change routing when there has been a specific problem with an external network, so I think you'll find the concept of customer service to be rather different to what you have got used to.
Throughput is consistent for me, IDNet delivers the best speed my line can get 24/7. The guarantee no contention within their network, so the only problems we face tend to be with BT.
Hi Cowie and ...(http://bestsmileys.com/welcome/17.gif)
The feedback on here is from actual users, as it is on ThinkBroadband.
They can't all be telling porkies. ;)
Thanks to you all for the friendly welcome and the info, hope to get sorted and be with you later in the week ;D
We'll clear a space for you in the bar - do you prefer a stool or an armchair? ;)
either mate as long as there's a pint or a whisky close by i'm not too fussed ;D
That can be arranged in our virtual world. :)
lol,we better move off that subject mate,as it could take us anywhere ::)
You're getting the feel of this place quite quickly, aren't you. ;D
:-[
signed up just now so hopefully will be done and dusted by the weekend :)
Toes crossed for you - once you get the email with login details, you can go to the customer accounts page at:
https://www.idnet.net/secure/
and set up your idnet.com email addresses. These will be up and running before you migrate.
Welcome and i can confirm as an avid gamer IDnet is rockin, i used to be with nildram and after being bought out my pings went through the roof bad latency lots of disconnects.
I play WoW mainly and i get pings from 50-120 which is about average for that game better than the 2500 i was getting with nildram, most other FPS type games i get between 12 and 25 ping which is fricken awesome, i would make sure interleaving is off on your line if you are going down the gaming path.
Customer service are very helpful and attentive and you dont pay a fortune for access to it which helps, welcome once again to without a doubt the best ISP on the planet!
We like happy customers. :)
Thanks azazel, that gives me confidence i have made the right move,am or was, playing COD4 on xbox, only time i get to play now is if i set the alarm clock for 5am so i get an hours online before work lol :D

I placed an order last night and am due to be migrated over on Thursday. I can already tell it was the right decision! ;D
It gets even better when you can change the login in your router, Sebby. :) IDNet are my 17th ISP (I've been online way too long) and I've never experienced a service like it.
That's what I keep reading, which is great. :)
I was really happy with Entanet at first, but the slowdown come 10pm and during the weekend (the time when I mainly use the internet!) was starting to be a bit of a drag. I'm not a heavy user; I probably use around 10GB/month, so I'd rather pay an extra £5/month for less usage, but for a more consistent service.
Wow.. respect  17 ISPs, Rik. I've only clocked up 9 and that's counting Screaming.net becoming WOL and then becoming Tiscali as three.
I started when I was still young and had hair, Ann. :) Pipex was my first - I couldn't stand the arrogance displayed by CS so moved on. It's nice to know that some things never change...
