Anyone having problems collecting their email today, Outlook is unable to connect to my accounts? I can't connect via webmail either.
Same here, my pop email is down and same with webmail
Appears to be a problem with .com addresses, .co.uk IDNet addresses seem ok (at least from here) ...

Probably just a server issue again, happened a few weeks ago on a Saturday as well ::) got fixed very quickly :)
No mail here either. :(
I'm having problems receiving, can't send either SMTP server seems to be down as well.
I can't send or receive.
Yup.. down here too but nothing said on the status page which is a shame... :-\
I have contacted Simon at IDNEt awaiting a reply. I don't expect the problem to last for long. ;D
We've got an engineer en-route to look at Trevor the mail server.
Simon
Many thanks Simon.
I just want to know who comes up with the names. :)
The idnet.net server is Pat, naturally.
So, you've got that off Pat, then? ;D :out:

Not sure that saying "Trevor has gone down" sounds good Simon ;) :out:
The degeneration of this thread has started early. ;D Good ain't it. >:D
Is Pat feminine? If so are Pat and Trevor in a relationship, or just good friends? Or are they in a relationship anyway? ::) :banana2: :banana2:

Bodes well for the rest of the day >:D
Is there some sort of "law" that makes this sort of thing always happen at the weekend?
Trevor, not a good name, just look how reliable cars called Trevor are - TVR >:D
Yes, it's called "The there's no-one in the office" law, Noreen. I suspect that normally, any server issues are sorted before we've had time to notice. :)
11 o'clock and still not working. If they're not careful I shall have to go and do something productive instead and that'll be a shock to the system.
I haven't heard any updates, Ann. :(

Yes. Sod's. :)
It is now 12 noon and my email is still DOWN. Never been let down by Idnet before! Would be weekend wouldn't it. No doubt someone is trying hard.
If they have sent a tech down to the server they will be working as hard as they can to get it working I'm sure, but glitches happen and as Simon said it's Sods law it happens at the weekend. That's why its good to have multiple email addresses for times like this :)
sack Trevor I say >:D
Yes, I shall have to change all my email lists over to another address shortly and catch up over the web. Ugh. Lunch first and maybe Trevor will have got his act together by then. I've still avoided doing anything productive this morning so all is still okay with the world ;D
It looks like hardware failure. I'm heading off to London now.
Simon
give Trev a good kicking will you ::)
Damnitttt trevor!!!!!! Pull your weight like all the others!!
lol
Fixed? Soon? Please?
Thanks :P
Hey Sam, you just moved into the 1,000 posts club - have a karma to celebrate. :)
yay! so wheres the secret room with cocktails etc. that ive been told about?
ahh i have a pm :D
Well it looks like my IDNet email is going by pigeon today, trouble is the only way I can catch a pigeon is with my cats help, and I fear that may be more of a hindrance to the process ;D

Oh, I don't know. Some of us are just clinically insane. (http://pc-pals.com/pics/smileys/crazy4.gif)
I've just spoken to Simon. Two disks in a RAID have failed (or the controller thinks they have). They have been replaced and the system is trying to re-build itself. He hopes to know more in an hour or so.
The reasons the status page has not been updated is because all other mail domains than idnet.com are unaffected. From what has been said, posting a mail failure would be a generic statement, thereby causing 'alarm' for people who are unaffected. The design of the status page is being thought about, therefore.
Finally, the server does also house the web & blog space, these will be restored once it's up and running again.

has Trevor been resc......recus.....resusu......sobered up yet? :out:
Apparently not yet. Last time I heard from Simon, it was trying to re-build the array. That was about 90 minutes ago, and it had already been running for an hour. :(

Er, with that spelling, Sam, it would have been Irish. :)

Rik beat me to it, oh well!
The disk array on trevor has still not rebuilt itself. We dare not interrupt it as that will certainly corrupt the partition. As this has been going on for so long now we are beginning to fear the worst. We'll leave the array to run its course but in the meantime we're going to start the restore-from-backup process. This will likely take a couple of hours. Web space, blogs and email settings can be restored but not the mail store. Mail sent today, while the server has been offline, will be queued-up on some of the other servers.
We had not changed the Network Status page because there's only a choice between green or red buttons and this this is just one of our seven mail servers red did not seem appropriate. I'll ask if we can have a yellow button and some space for text explaining why a 'partial' status might be in effect.
regards
Simon
Cheers simon, its nice to know when things are going on :)
Spelling corrected, sorry if i offended anyone even though the irish are a lovely bunch (crazy and drunk like most idnetters i kinda guess :P)
Thanks for the update Simon.
Please can you clarify what is meant when you say the mail store can't be restored and the implications of this?
Quote from: simon on Oct 06, 2007, 17:26:25
not the mail store.
So what exactly would be affected, Simon, mail that was in people's inboxes but not yet read?
Or what Lance said. :)
Email that was either read and stored on the server or had not been read before about 11am this morning. Any mail sent after that time should be queued on the store-and-forward servers.
Simon
Thanks Simon.
How is the array rebuild and the restore from backup going?
Thanks for the update even if it's not very good news. :)
Again, thanks for the update, Simon. Do we have any idea how this happened? I know discs can fail, but isn't it unusual for two to go at once?
Not if they know I'm around, Simon. It's the name that does it. :)
Remind me not to come near Milton Keynes if ever I have to have a pacemaker! ;D
I wouldn't like to bet on the odds of two disks going at the same time which is why we are a bit sceptical. But that is what the RAID controller is asserting....

I hope you didn't have a weekend planned, Simon! :(
if he did, they have been well and truly scuppered :eek3:

I also have been unreliably informed that the email failure is down to an electrical failure at IDN mansions.
Apparently traces of Horlicks have been found in the donkey. ;)
I'm afriad that we're having more trouble than we anticipated. Will attack again in the morning with fresh eyes.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, Simon. Full marks for trying to get it sorted, especially at this hour. We couldn't ask for more. Have a Karma to wish you luck for the morning! (http://pc-pals.com/pics/smileys/thumb.gif)

I've received some email! About a 100 of them!!! haha. Don't know about sending mail though, just tried to send some to my girlfriend, who is at present sat at the computer next to me in the front room wearing not a lot, and she has not received it yet, give it time, haha. Web space not up yet though! I'm sure the problem will be sorted very soon.
There's still a delay on outgoing mail as everything shuffles through the holding servers, Andy. I haven't been able to work out how long, it seems a bit variable (not helped by the fact that the 1&1 smtp servers seem to be on a go slow). However, the mail notification fo your post took just a couple of minutes to reach me.
Some people are having problems with webspace, some with blog space - it's being looked at.
Just to update, my web space is now up and running again, and I have received several emails sent about an hour ago.
Emails seem to be coming through fairly steadily now, with the odd one appearing from the mists of time. My web space is up, my blog is down (as is Gary's when I checked last).
Mine still aren't coming through, including the tests ones I sent at 9.30am.
I'm pretty much up to date now, though I don't know what was lost, of course. If you want to PM me your email address, I'll send to you from three different domains so you can get an idea of what is happening.
I'm much like you now Rik, my website is ok but my blog is not there. :'(
I'm wondering whether all blogs have gone for now, Alf. Gary's was working, albeit slowly, but that is 404ing now... TBH, the least of my worries, it was only ever there so I knew how to set it up. :)

I am still getting a 404 message on webmail -

The requested URL / was not found on this server.
Am getting a little concerned as I will be relying on webmail for a while.
Is anyone else still having problems and do we know when they will be fixed?
Has it been established whether any incoming mails have been lost?
Thanks
EDIT - should have said this is on webmail.idnet.com

I'm not having a problem with webmail here rickus, try emptying your browser cache and trying the it again http://webmail.idnet.com/ as far as I know there was some loss of email from yesterday morning but how much I do not know I'm afraid.

Am actually using someone else's PC today so am reluctant to clear their cache.
Will be using a different machine from tomorrow evening.
