Title: 02 mobile
Post by: talos on Jun 17, 2013, 10:36:47
Don't know if any one on here is affected, but it seems the O2 mobile network has gone down in parts of the UK  >:(
I've had no signal for two days now unless I travel south a few miles. Just goes to show don't junk the landline just yet, if you have an emergency you cant rely on the mobile providers

I notice my signal had been weak recently, O2 network checker seems clear although my local mast(s) is experiencing heavy demand.

Yes, I've also noticed a deterioration in the signal here, and my local mast also reports as congested.  ::)

Their network checker is useless, it says all OK here, no help at all, and if you want to call the helpline its  a premium rate :rant2:

Been having issues with O2 for months now, especially when it rains.. the signal goes for hours even after its stopped.

You will get a better response talking to a brick than their support.

I think it's time for a change, I might give Orange a go unless anybody knows better  :)

We've 2 in our household on Orange but do they ever send anything more than a text.

I've not noticed any trouble with O2 on my work blackberry, which seems to have been stuck to my ear most of the day.

I wonder like Orange and Tmobile if O2 are removing masts in places where they can now share Vodafone infrastructure, the EE forums are full of complaints about signal issues because of masts being taken down, I wonder if its the same thing as there is no point in doubling up on masts.

Could be I suppose, but you would think they would get the new one into service before removing the old >:(

Maybe the existing services can no longer cope with the demand?  I don't know how often they're upgraded, but most of the masts were probably erected before the advent of 'smart' phones, and their increasing usage.

Cynism would suggest that consolidation of masts may in some cases reduce coverage, never have been convinced that rural coverage is important as long as it works well in areas of high population densities.

Where I live is a medium sized town, surrounded by smaller villages.  The coverage in the town is usually OK, but go out to the villages and the signal weakens.  I was led to believe that one of the reasons for this is becuse the villagers objected to a mast being erected, but I don't know how true that is.  If I lived in a village, I'd be pretty miffed to have no mobile coverage.

I believe O2 & Vodafone are consolidating their networks, so some masts will be decommissioned. Three & EE share a fair bit of their mast estates.

Does make me wonder Glenn though, Vodafone isn't great near me but I wouldn't surprise me if they did consolidate, which one they got rid off ie the O2. I suspect there's more than just coverage when the cost savings are worked out.

We have a Vodafone mast in the village near the Exchange, but the O2 one is maybe 1.5 miles away, if the dropped that mast we would have no O2 coverage here. Three coverage is great and I use that for Mobile data great speeds as its HSPA+. Orange/EE is good but the 3G is very slow. O2 only offer 2G  ::)

All 4 are rubbish where I live, I'm lucky to get 1 bar on the signal display, I suppose it's the joys of living on the edge of town/forest.
