Title: SureSignal with a Vodafone MVNO?
Post by: pctech on Jul 26, 2011, 22:18:30
Just moved over to Talkmobile which is a CPW owned, Vodafone based virtual operator (yes I know I've blasted CPW but the call rates on PAYG are cheap and I now know I don't need a contract)

Coverage at home isn't great but I know at work it'll be fine, was looking at the SureSignal but not sure whether it'll work with customers that use one of the MVNOs.

Anybody tried this?

Talkmobile confirmed that unfortunately even though they use Vodafone's network only Vodafone customers can use a SureSignal.

So will check the signal strength when the Orange SIM arrives and if 'all's good in the 'hood' I'll port my number over to them.

Changed my mind after talking to a colleague on Orange.

Going to move to GiffGaff, good prices and O2 coverage, can't beat that.

I think a tenner a month O2 simplicity 30 day notice sim would do me in a basic handset.

I was on it Gary but was only using half the minutes so no real need.

The giffgaff SIM activation seems to be taking a while, about an hour and a half now, proving more popular than they thought?

As you say, they must be getting popular. IIRC mine only took a few seconds when I did it a few months ago.
I think I joined them in Dec last year from Orange PAYG. I added £10 credit and I've still got £14 left ;D ( used one of the referrals so both they and I got a £5 bonus ). As you can see I don't use my phone a lot...

Me neither, more at home communicating over a keyboard than talking  ;D

Have to say I prefer talking than using a keyboard, people are...more themselves that way.

Good to have O2's superb coverage back again along with Giffgaff's pricing.

They acknowledged my port in request this morning and its scheduled for tomorrow.

I would not call O2's coverage great, its okay but not great 3G is pathetic. Orange and Vodafone have much better coverage but not such good tariffs. Giffgaff don't have access to O2's network features, I always ask myself as an O2 user quite what they are... :eyebrow: I may point Justina to this, ideal for her needs, although I still have that 'anything thats to good to be true probably is' feeling. I'm just jaded ;)

As a mostly voice and text user, the GSM coverage is fine.

I did however find this on the giffgaff forums which has persuaded me to go back to O2
http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Ask-the-community-got-stuck/voucher-has-been-processing-for-30-hours/m-p/1208663#M411024

In a nutshell they have now told the poor guy they can delete the account and create a new one but he will lose the number he has ported in but they have claimed the money from his cards.

Thats a bit lame, I cant see why they just cant send out a new sim with the number on it  ??? You have changed providers more than Simon used to change phones, Mitch.

You seem to have been though every major mobile telecommunications provider in the last few days must be quite exhausting.

Only works with a 3G phone, although you have to read the Vodafone small print to realise this.

Giffgaff's systems decided to bar outgoing calls yesterday despite the account being fully funded.

Giffgaff continues to be a pain in the neck, they did release that bar but could not explain why it happened.

Was due to port onto O2 today but my number was still unrecognised as of 6 p.m. so rang O2 who told me that despite issuing a valid PAC they haven't actually authorised the release of the number so O2's porting technicians are now going to have to contact Giffgaff to sort it out but should be fixed within 24 hours.

O2 have fixed the problem already, definitely can't fault the service.

Got a cheque from O2 in the post this morning for the 18 quid credit that remained on the contract I closed which was nice of them I thought.
