I'm running an OSgrid server on PC2 running Win 7. Since Win is so resource hungry, I decided to go dual boot with Ubuntu Server (9.04 - 9.10 fails owing to bad S.M.A.R.T. data).
In installed beautifully but I hit a problem. It was failing to mount an ntfs partition (that I really need some data from).
So - I deleted the partition in Windows and recreated is, then copied the needed data across again.
Then GRUB failed.
Currently trying to repair - and worrying like mad.
Hell - during the time I've been typing this the system has repaired itself and I'm back to Ubuntu Server lol. That was quick.

Is the hard drive flaky?
Maybe it is now lol. I couldn't login - tried resetting the PW and could only login as root.
Since it's a clean install, I decided to wipe the drive and reinstall again. I hope I got the right disk - can't remember which one Windows is on - but no real loss. Since the OS server is copied onto both drives, I should be able to find it - and I don't mind losing Windows on it.
Nevertheless, :fingers:

PS - for non linux users - re-install is a 10 minute job for the server edition. Not three days like Windows :)
PPS - GRUB found Windows - so I guess I guessed right re the disk :thumb:
Wow - this reminds me of my time 15 years ago installing Debian onto my Amiga - no GUI, just a screen full of text. Retro memories - I love it :)
