Title: Upload speed drops after 20 secs - repeatable error?
Post by: boomboomer on Dec 14, 2009, 16:32:11
Hi again all,

After some throughput issues IDNet advised me that my modem router was causing high line attenuation, so I've replaced it.

The new router, a Netgear DG834PN, performs pretty well but I've noticed that uploads are 'a bit weird'. The download is pretty consistent at around 6.9Mb but the upload seems to slow sharply at the same point every time - even using different test sites.

i.e. the speed test give 380kbs for the first 10 seconds then, drops to under 200kbs for the remainder of the test, no matter how many times I run the test or which site I use to test with.

The old router gave full upload throughout the test, is the new router faulty or did I miss a setting somewhere?

Thanks.

Ignore the upload speedtesters, for some reason they can't cope with WBC, though they can with Max. If you use the meadenhead server at speedtest.net, you should get a reasonable figure at the end of the test, even though it appears to stall during.

You're lucky, I've only just got back from a pleasantly boozy lunch with Simon & Tim. ;D
