I'm not sure myself, but maybe this (http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/Reviews.asp?ProductID=3474) helps?

I have version 1 that maybe version 2? if so its a different chipset so difficult to comment in any detail, however the wireless range in the house is excellent and works well with "wireless g " products.

I have the DG834PN David and its never been any bother for me. easy to set up and use it just sits there and works. When I first got it I felt it tended to run a tad warm so I stand it vertical in the supplied feet and its fine.Wireless range seems good and I run two laptops and sons PS3 on it with little probs. Only problems I have had with the wireless side is a drop now and then on the laptops but I think that may be Vista and me not knowing enough about it :)

Looking again, I can't tell from the picture which version it is,however version 2  has a button at the front near the bottom, version 2 is not on netgear's uk website and Sebby's link is probably version one?, if these pictures are correct see here (http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/family/a_id/1290) for pictorial difference

So if it is version 1, I would recommend it, my only reservation is it does seem to be sensitive to neighbouring wifi signals, which is solved by changing the channel to a non competing one.

You'll gain another 1000k when your profile catches up, David.  :thumb:

I suspect you've gained some sync as your profile is now too low, so it looks like things have improved. Which router were you using before, David?

My line has never showed that connection rate and I see my profile has gone up it was  I think 5 last year  :dunno: I wont complain though, the other thing is that a BT test is easy now but up to yesterday it was impossible and I gave up  :dunno:

Although BT claimed it would work, I could never get a test to complete in FF until the last time I tried it, when it also didn't take half an hour to complete!!

If that was it Sebby yes I have not been able to get a test here for ages but its very good now and slower than others but worth the result I think  :thumb:

No abuse for the simple question........BUT....your saying you can increase your broadband speed by getting certain routers? If so which is the best?

Well there's the thousand dollar question  ;D

Long lines seem to like the 2Wire while shorter lines seem to like Netgears is what I've found.  Although my line is shorter, the Netgear initially gave me a higher speed but it was less stable so it gradually dropped.  So as I seem to have an unstable line, I've stuck with the 2Wire and gradually regained some speed.

I have the version DG834N v1 David and it works like a charm, not seen version 2 out yet though, the new DGND3300 http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxWirelessNRoutersandGateways/DGND3300.aspx is coming soon and that's a dual band router giving you the 5ghz frequency which is must less congested, saying that my DG834N gives me speeds of 150Mbps set to channel 7 around the bungalow, so I'm in no hurry to replace it. The firewall is great, with Intrusion Detection and Prevent (IDS) and Denial of Service (DoS) attack prevention, on top of the usual SPI.

What Ann said, mynnydd. The 2700 seems to perform exceptionally well on long or noisy lines, as an example, when I switched, I gained 500k in speed and retain a connection for a month or more at a time, compared to the Netgear which had a 'personal best' of 12 days, but usually dropped every 3-4 days. Another good model for poor lines is the Speedtouch 585.

its got to be more than just the router though Rik hasnt it? I have never kept a record of uptime with my Netgear DG834PN but just had a look when I saw your post and its been ok for 839 hours which is nearly 35 days. sounds good to me and Ive had very little bother with it

It's always a router/line combo, Baz. What works well for one person can be a washout for another. Before I moved to Max, I used a Draytek router, which was rock steady. With Max, it became flaky and the Netgear was better. Along came the 2700 and things got better still.

When i had the 2700 on my long line it was fantastic, it just caused me issues with live messenger as I needed to port forward with no UPnP also that was a headache with other devices using UPnP, but it have me 1.5 meg more easily, on my present line I have no issues with The DG834N but I have a good quality short stable line, so the 2700 would be of no use. for those with long lines and snr issues its worth a try.
