Hopefully that will be enough for some of you to identify which OS this might refer to.  Perhaps it's Linux?   
What I need to know is how to change the keyboard settings from US to UK.  Sorry I can't be more helpful but the computer is hundreds of miles away from me in Cambridge.

That's  fantastic Steve - thanks very much for that.  I'm pretty sure you are correct as the computer is in the university at Cambridge and is part of their system although in an outpost if you follow my drift.  The user will be immensely grateful for your reply.   :thumb:
