Netgear Router DGN1000
« on: Nov 11, 2012, 12:57:37 »
I only took delivery of this machine a couple of days ago. Now I wish to use the wireless function to connect, in this instance, to my Kindle. After a lot of faffing (the printed instructions are non existent) I have found the password and got it to work. However is there an easy way to change the password, or even remove it?

That looks as though it would do it, problem is I cannot log in. The bottom of the router gives address:
http:\\192.168.0.1
This gives me the opportunity to enter the Login Name and Password, which the bottom  says is admin and password respectively, the only problem is the login does not work!  :bawl:

Did you get the router from IDNet? If so I think the username may have been changed to your IDNet user name hopefully someone will confirm this.

They also change the password. It used to be to the login password, but I think they stopped using that.

I have now corrected it, it was so easy once I knew how. Why do manufacturers seem to make their manual so difficult to comprehend, also no written instructions are supplied. Many thanks both of you for your help. I often wonder what I would do without IDNetters!

I've asked support to confirm whether the username and password (IDNet login password) you used are their normal supplied settings, if so we could place it somewhere for reference (if it isn't there already)

You can download a PDF manual for your router here, http://support.netgear.com/product/DGN1000.

Thanks Garry, I have already done that, but it is not easy (to me) to find and understand the bit of information you need. Perhaps it is an age thing! Please say it is, then I can sue you for ageism!  ;)
