What do you mean by 'recovery firmware', Alan?  Mine is 5.29.107.19, and there's no 'update' link on the Home page, so does that mean it's not likely to try to update?

The current v5 firmware is BT v5.29.107.19 and that is the one BT are currently updating to V6.

BT v5.29.107.19 has not escaped into the wild and so it is not available for manual upgrades.

The latest firmware that has "escaped" (and can therefore be used manually) is one that was issued by BT to allow faulty Routers to be "recovered"  bt-2700hgv_reinstall_voice_adsl.5-29-107-12.2sp , my earlier hyperlink takes you directly to the update page in the router http://gateway.2wire.net/tech/upgrade.html

Right, I get it, thanks, Alan.  I guess the clock is ticking for mine then.  :(

Mine is the same firmware as yours Simon :thumb: I read the bit about version 6, and (I think) there is no need to panic, a little 'fooling' of the router seems all that's needed, if the need arises

The current v5 firmware is BT v5.29.107.19 and that is the one BT are currently updating to V6.

I have just bought a dual SSID from Ebay (£2.20) and it has come with firmware 5.29.117.6 installed which appears to be a later version.

It is up an running perfectly but would I be better downgrading the software to the BT v5.29.107.12 recovery firmware?

In my present software there is no tick box on the management page to permit me to disallow Inbound and Outbound Control Remote Management.

Thanks for mentioning that.  I've just found it on mine, and unticked Inbound Remote Management.

Good news for those of us that do not have 59.29.117.6 firmware.

Using Tripod's methods I have forced a router with 5.29.107.12 firmware to try and log into BT's update server at https://pbthdm.bt.motive.com/cwmpWeb/CPEMgt and the server rejects the attempts because old firmwares have the wrong certificates.

The detailed log reads....

INF        2009-03-13T20:41:27Z       cwmd:  retried session started, server: 'https://pbthdm.bt.motive.com/cwmpWeb/CPEMgt', event code(s): '0 BOOTSTRAP
ERR        2009-03-13T20:41:28Z       cwmd:  failed to build or validate cert-chain: depth=0, error=unable to get local issuer certificate
ERR        2009-03-13T20:41:28Z       cwmd:  failed certificate: /C=US/ST=Texas/L=Austin/O=Motive, Inc./OU=Hosted Services/CN=pbthdm.bt.motive.com
WRN        2009-03-13T20:41:28Z       cwmd:  httpc_poll_dispatch - I/O error
WRN        2009-03-13T20:41:28Z       cwmd:  session failed...
INF        2009-03-13T20:41:28Z       cwmd:  session will be retried in 338058(ms)

So not only are they not looking for us, they reject us if we come up on their radar - excellent news if you run servers and need to avoid the "Device List" bug in V6 firmware

It is now confirmed that the Javascript save method will not work with V6 firmware, that seriously reduces their versatility.

Unless for some reason you must have the V6 firmware, we recommend you lock down version 5.28.117.6 firmwares by changing the acs_url

Follow the guide and it is a simple process; be sure to use https://gw-5-29-117.cwmp.cms.2wire.com as the new acs_url.

When buying a 2700HGV, confirm with the seller that the router has a V5 series Firmware

Simon has devised the most successful method as listed at Tripod, this has been getting mixed results, it is important to do a factory reset before setting up.
